Finding Opportunities

If you are looking for opportunities to sell to Tasmanian agencies, here are some ideas on where to start:

  • Monitor the current list of tendering opportunities and the future opportunities on the Tenders websiteGovernment agencies are encouraged to provide advance notice of future procurement opportunities on the Tenders website, under the Future Opportunities section. Here you will find information on upcoming tendering opportunities including a brief description of the goods or services required and an indication of the location and indicative procurement date. Agency enquiry officer detail will also be included.

  • Check the Tasmanian Government Tenders section of the major Tasmanian papers (ie The MercuryThe Examiner and The Advocate). Notenot all opportunities will be advertised in newspapers or if they are, they may not be advertised in all major papers, so it is important to review the Tenders website regularly, to be registered to receive email notifications from the Tenders website and to make sure you are known to buyers.

  • Review the Who Buys What section of this website for information on which agencies buy what products and make yourself known to the buyers. Making yourself known to the relevant buyers is very important as, in some cases, agency buyers may seek quotes for directly from businesses rather than going to an open tender. See the How to Get Known section for more tips.
  • Review agencies' Annual Reports. Agencies have to provide information on individual contracts awarded with a value of $50 000 or more during the relevant year. This will help you identify the types of purchases made by individual agencies, as well as identifying when periodic contracts may next be tendered. Annual Reports are published on agency websites in late October to early November of each year.
  • Check the Contracts section of this website for whole-of-government common use contracts (ie contracts used by  all agencies), including information on when they expire.
  • Check  the Tasmanian 10-year Infrastructure Pipeline designed to assist businesses in planning their work and making investment decisions. The Pipeline contains major project information gathered from Tasmanian government agencies, government businesses, statutory authorities and local government. Where major private sector projects are known, they are also included. The Pipeline includes projects valued at $5 million or more, that are funded, partially funded, or highly likely to be funded. The information is presented through an interactive online database and is updated approximately twice a year.
  • Review the full Capital Investment Program, available in the State Budget documents each year, which comprises the capital expenditure programs of government agencies. For information on future projects, see each year's Budget Paper No 2 available here.
  • Register for Building and Construction and/or Roads and Bridges work, and apply for a registration upgrade if your qualifications or circumstances change - see here.
  • Review tendering information in other Tasmanian and Australian papers for information on opportunities with other government organisations, councils, the Commonwealth Government etc. Links to useful sites are available here.
